Govt to write off RM233.8mil in Felcra debts, says PM

Some RM191 million in monsoon season aid will also be distributed to 232,319 Risda smallholders.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob also announced that Risda smallholders will get some RM600 in monsoon aid at the end of the year.

Putrajaya has agreed in principle to waive some RM233.8 million in debts owed by Felcra settlers, says Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

According to Bernama, Ismail also said a total of RM191 million will be spent on monsoon season aid for 232,319 Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) smallholders.

Each smallholders will receive some RM600 in November and December.

Ismail, who heads a caretaker government, also announced that RM181.5 million in interim profit distribution will be paid in stages from today to 74,949 Felcra settlers nationwide.

Meanwhile, Risda commercial replanting projects worth RM73.2 million have been distributed to smallholders.

These were distributed at an average rate of RM5,480.38 per ha for each smallholder, up until September.

Ismail also said Putrajaya had allocated RM6.74 million in annual allowances for 624 Tok Batin and village chiefs across the nation.

Earlier this month, rural development minister Mahdzir Khalid said the ministry was considering writing off the debts of 20,000 settlers in Felcra land schemes.

The settlers had incurred debts for land clearing, fencing and planting of trees which were paid off with revenue from the crops.
