SEREMBAN:
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given an assurance that efforts to empower urban and rural Chinese communities will not be marginalised in the 2023 federal budget.

He said the government would ensure that the budget is focused on the welfare and well-being of the people as a whole. It would also take into consideration next year’s challenges.

The prime minister gave his assurance in a speech at the closing of the 37th National Chinese Cultural Festival, an annual programme aimed at raising the awareness of the young generation about Chinese heritage and culture.

Among those present were Ouyang Yujing, China’s ambassador to Malaysia, and Goh Tian Chuan, president of the Federation of Chinese Associations (popularly called Huazong).

Ismail said the different cultures in the country should strengthen the relationship among the people of Malaysia and allow them to learn the philosophies behind the cultures.

He said the government encouraged the hosting of cultural programmes involving various communities, and that Huazong should continue its efforts to organise Chinese cultural events.

“The government always supports programmes organised by government agencies to strengthen the unity of Keluarga Malaysia (the Malaysian family),” he said.

At the same time, the government is implementing measures to make Malaysia a developed and cultured country through the national cultural policy launched last year to dignify and preserve the art, culture and heritage of Keluarga Malaysia.
