Hospital quarters, construction site among new EMCO areas

Several locations in Perak, Kedah, Pahang and Sabah will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for two weeks from Monday (July 26).

Deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the locations are Medan Klebang Restu and Bandar Pulai Jaya (Perak); Hospital Pendang staff quarters and construction site (Kedah); Blok 5 Felda Keratong 7 in Rompin (Pahang), and five areas in Sabah: Kampung Lajau, Kampung Kota Klias in Beaufort, Perumahan Ladang Kim Loong in Beluran, Kampung Tungkang in Kudat as well as Kampung Telisai in Lahad Datu.

He said the lockdown is scheduled to end on Aug 8.

The EMCOs in several places in Sabah – namely QL Farm Membalua, Kampung Pikat, Penjara Kepayan, Kampung Jawi-Jawi, Kampung Suang Parai, Taman Kingfisher Sulaman and Bandaran Berjaya – will end tomorrow (July 25).

He added the authorities had arrested 337 individuals on Friday for MCO-related offences; 332 were slapped with compounds while five others were remanded.

Ismail said the authorities also arrested six foreigners and seized seven vehicles in their ongoing Op Benteng.

A total of 49 premises involving factories, businesses and construction sites were ordered to close yesterday for breaching MCO rules.

Ismail said the compliance operation task force conducted 80,868 inspections and snap checks on factories, business premises, construction sites and workers’ hostels.
