‘PKR leaders’ meeting with Hadi proves crisis in PH’

PM’s aide Rizal Mansor says Amanah and PPBM should feel disappointed that PKR does not have confidence in them in facing BN in general election.

PETALING JAYA:
The prime minister’s special officer, Rizal Mansor, has claimed PKR does not trust the strength of other Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties in facing BN in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).

He said this was plain to observe after its president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and deputy president Azmin Ali held a meeting with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

“The crisis of confidence among PKR, Amanah and PPBM cannot be covered up any more,” he said.

“According to notes by (Universiti Utara Malaysia academic) Dr Kamarul Yusoff yesterday, Amanah leaders at the party’s Kelantan convention had revealed tensions in the relationship among the three parties.

“Last night, the PKR president and deputy president appeared to confirm what was said by Amanah leaders in Kelantan and what Kamarul Yusoff had written as being true when they visited the PAS president.”

Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is also Umno president, has reportedly built up a good relationship with Hadi of late.

He had also visited Hadi when he was undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute in May.

Rizal said it was clear to Amanah and PPBM that PKR still hoped to work with PAS in GE14.

“In other words, PKR has no confidence in Amanah and PPBM,” he said.

Last night, Hadi, who is Marang MP, received a visit from Wan Azizah, Azmin and PKR vice-president Shaharuddin Badaruddin.

The incident came to public notice only after photos were uploaded on the social media accounts of Hadi and Azmin.

However, no details were given on the intention and outcome of the meeting.

On April 30, the PAS general assembly had resolved to end its political cooperation with PKR, which was its ally together with DAP in the now defunct Pakatan Rakyat.

The PAS Syura Council had endorsed the decision on May 11.

PKR was accused of breaching the conditions of the cooperation known as “tahaluf siyasi” in by-elections held earlier and of siding with DAP in opposing a motion by Hadi in the Dewan Rakyat to bring about shariah amendments for harsher punishments against Muslims.

Rizal also said Amanah and PPBM should feel disappointed with PKR as it had betrayed its friendship in the new PH coalition.

“Amanah has the right to feel embittered over PKR’s action in acting behind its back,” he said.

“At the same time, PAS also has the right to feel proud its former ally continues to be ‘gila talak’ (desperate to woo again after divorce),” he said.
