Abdul Hadi, who is PAS president, said yesterday that PAS would not interfere in Terengganu. Umno should continue to govern the state and be allowed to settle its internal issues on its own.
When asked if PAS and Umno would form a unity government, he told Sinar Harian: “No way!” He said there should be sincere reasons for a unity government, but not because of a political crisis.
There has been speculation about an imminent change of leadership in Terengganu after the Menteri Besar, Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, was stripped of his royal honours and titles.
According to Sinar Harian, Abdul Hadi said: “Give them the chance and the time until the term ends. Let them solve the issues by themselves.”
Umno’s hold on power in Terengganu rests on a narrow two-seat majority in the state assembly.
Despite speculation about his departure, Ahmad Razif has said he was carrying on with “business as usual” and left the next move for Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak and the Sultan of Terengganu, Tuanku Mizan.
