KUANTAN:
Four key industrial sectors will receive government attention to drive Pahang’s economic growth, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.

The four sectors are the chemical and petrochemical industry, automotive, food manufacturing, and heavy and medium industries.

The emphasis on these sectors will be implemented through various master plans and initiatives, he said in a speech read by Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail at a session with people from industry.

Anwar called off his scheduled visit to Pahang on medical advice because of back pain which limits his movements.

He said the chemical and chemical products sector is among the top five with the highest trade value within the manufacturing sector, representing 12.15% of the country’s total trade as of June 2025.

As of September, Pahang had recorded total investments worth RM17.43 billion, surpassing this year’s target of RM14.09 billion and creating more than 11,000 job opportunities.

On the issue of water supply in the Gebeng industrial area, the prime minister said the federal government has implemented a long-term solution through the construction of a seawater treatment plant in Pantai Gebeng in collaboration with the state government.

“This is proof of the government’s commitment to ensuring that the business environment in Gebeng remains competitive without disruptions to basic utilities and logistics,” he said.

He thanked the Gebeng industrial support group, comprising industry workers, for its active role as a key liaison between the Gebeng industrial community and government agencies.

“The close cooperation ensures that local issues, particularly those involving infrastructure, utilities and logistics operations, can be addressed promptly, thereby creating a productive and harmonious working environment,” he said.
