Its chief executive officer, Amir Hamdan, said a team of engineers inspected Train No 39 and found that the brake damage was caused by a hydraulic leak.
Upon identifying the leak, a second team of engineers was immediately sent to carry out repairs, and the route had to be closed as repairs were being carried out underneath the train, he said.
The operations department then activated its alternative service plan where passengers on the Gombak-Putra Heights line had to get off at the Asia Jaya LRT station and board the next train to resume their journey.
“This (plan) had to be done since there is only one track that can be used between the Taman Bahagia LRT station and the Taman Jaya LRT station,” he added.
“We would like to apologise to all affected passengers who arrived late at their workplaces this morning. We will investigate the cause of damage on the train so that such an incident won’t happen again,” said Amir in a statement.
The LRT service resumed at 1.26pm after Train No 39 was taken out.
According to the maintenance record, the train had undergone several scheduled maintenance checks, with the last one carried out on April 28, when it was cleared to operate.
Amir also said that affected passengers could get a one-way travel coupon to be claimed within five days from today.
“Those who have not gotten their coupon can get them at any LRT Rapid KL counter,” he added.
