In a statement today, the company said the incident, caused by a damaged “current collector”, saw transit officers on the train quickly react by ordering passengers to disembark at the Abdullah Hukum station.
“An alternative train was activated to allow passengers to reach their destinations. No injuries to passengers were reported,” said the company.
A video of the incident has been shared widely on social media, showing passengers reacting in panic to the loud noise and exiting the train hurriedly.
Rapid Rail said the affected train was sent to the maintenance depot for further investigations.
It said it has intensified inspections on all trains operating on the line, and assigned transit officers to conduct more frequent monitoring, especially inside trains during peak hours.
