“The purpose of the hearing is to investigate the cause of outbreaks, the efficiency of the management and implementation of prevention and eradication activities as well as the expenditure of funds in tackling dengue in Selangor,” State Assembly Speaker and Selcat chairperson Hannah Yeoh told a press conference today.
She said Selcat had summoned to the hearing the relevant officers from the Selangor Department of Health and from various land and district offices. Two members of the Selangor Executive Council as well as representatives of local authorities would also be called to testify, she added. She did not name them.
She pointed out that Selangor had the most recorded dengue cases in Malaysia.
Last month alone, the Selangor Department of Health recorded 7,335 new cases. The total number reported last year was 63,198.
Selcat has seven members – two from DAP, two from PKR and one each from PAS, Umno and Parti Amanah Negara.
