For those unfamiliar with Bandar Baru Klang, it is the commercial area a stone’s throw away from Bukit Raja Aeon, practically a few hundred metres away from Shah Alam.
Apple Thai Style located here is one of the few restaurants run almost exclusively by a Thai national, and it is well worth a visit if you’re in the area and are looking for a slap-up and spicy meal.
Its setup is basic but comfortable with air-conditioning, and includes a grocery section with a solid selection of Thai items, including chilled goods such as Vitamilk.
Apple Thai Style’s menu is extensive and features pretty much anything you could imagine – including snacks, beverages and desserts – and pork is served as well!
Here’s just a small selection of what you could order:
- a range of fried-rice dishes, such as pineapple, shrimp paste, green curry, and petai;
- fried curry paste rice (that is, curry paste that’s fried, then served with white rice), as well as basil with minced or crispy pork;
- the quintessential Pad Thai, green curry mee, and crab meat Thai laksa;
- a very large variety of salads including papaya, mango, cucumber and boiled egg, long bean, cockle, and Thai sausage;
- fresh seafood, veggies, and much, much more!

For appetisers, give the raw prawn salad (RM20) a try. The version here comes with plenty of mint, accompanying slices of raw bitter gourd, and fresh, uncooked prawns. The combination is a killer – absolutely delightful and super, super spicy.
The fried chicken wings with fish sauce (RM15) come four pieces to a plate, perfectly prepared with crispy skin and a juicy interior. Well-marinated and absolutely delicious, these would be perfect paired with a cold beer!
For veggies, try the kailan with crispy pork – tender and yummy slices of meat, not unlike “siew yoke” (roast pork), which complement the greens excellently.
And of course, you can’t visit a Thai restaurant for the first time without trying its tom yum soup. The version served here (RM15) is rich and flavourful, laden with seafood, with a level of spiciness that you will certainly enjoy as well.
All in all, you will leave Apple Thai Style with no complaints – unless, of course, the mouth-burning chilli heat gets too much to bear!
