Astro group chief executive Rohana Rozhan said the target would be driven by the positive outlook in the Go Shop, Astro Go, Astro NJOI and digital advertisement segments.
She said for the free satellite television service, Astro NJOI, the group aimed to grow its customer base by 400,000 new households from the current 5.1 million while ensuring the home viewing experience would be better in terms of picture quality.
“We also want to improve our Astro On The Go and Astro on Demand services to ensure our customers continue to get the best movies and television series that are available to-date,” she told reporters after the announcement of the group’s FY17 results here today.
For its FY17, Rohana said there were 3.3 million downloads of the Astro On The Go application with 1.1 million users watching about three hours of content weekly.
“For this (financial) year, we are aiming to have at least five million viewers for the apps,” she said.
For digital advertisements, she said, the group aimed to secure a bigger market share of the growing trend of the advertisement medium at the moment, and indirectly improved its position from fifth currently.
Last year, the group’s total advertisement expenditure stood at RM705 million, 10% higher from RM640 million in 2015.
For its over-the-top streaming application, Tribe, Rohana said the group aimed to expand the services into two new markets this year as well as widen its existing services in the Philippines and Indonesia.
Tribe, launched in Indonesia and Philippines last year, has currently achieved a total of one million downloads for both markets, she said.
