In today’s session, three interpreters took turns to read 135 charges against Nora Idayu Jaafar, 48, in proceedings that went on for two hours without a pause.
Nora, who stood in the dock throughout, pleaded not guilty to each charge.
She appeared visibly fatigued midway through the session, prompting her lawyer, Daniel Annamalai, to request that the court allow her to sit.
The accused was first charged in early June but the court adjourned the case after she fainted when the 90th charge was read to her.
On June 26, the court ordered her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation after Daniel raised concerns about her health condition.
On the same day, she claimed trial to 132 charges read out to her.
However, the court held last week that she was fit to stand trial, after a report from Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan confirmed her to be of sound mind and fully aware of the nature and consequences of her actions at the time the alleged offences were said to have taken place.
Nora was accused of altering Astro’s customer management system to convert regular customer accounts into corporate accounts.
The offences were said to have been committed between 2013 and 2020 at Astro’s office at Menara Icon on Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur.
The charges were framed under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, up to seven years in jail, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Rohaiza Abd Rahman appeared for the prosecution.
The proceedings before judge Suhaila Haron will continue tomorrow and on Wednesday.
