Nora Idayu Jaafar is accused of altering Astro’s customer management system to convert regular customer accounts into corporate accounts between 2013 and 2020.

The charges were framed under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, up to seven years in jail, or both, upon conviction.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The sessions court here has completed reading a total of 743 charges of unauthorised data modification against a former Astro employee, four months after she was first brought to court.

Nora Idayu Jaafar, 48, claimed trial to the remaining 123 charges read out before judge Suhaila Haron this morning, bringing the total to 743 charges read out over the course of five proceedings since June.

Nora is accused of altering Astro’s customer management system to convert regular customer accounts into corporate accounts between 2013 and 2020 at the company’s office in Menara Icon on Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

She was charged under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, a maximum seven years’ jail, or both, upon conviction.

The court allowed her bail at RM32,000, ordered her passport to be surrendered, and fixed Nov 18 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Rohaiza Abd Rahman said the prosecution intended to call 35 witnesses.

Nora was first charged in early June, but the proceedings were halted after she fainted when the 90th charge was read.

Her lawyer, Daniel Annamalai, subsequently raised concerns over her health, leading the court to order a psychiatric evaluation.

A report from Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan later confirmed she was of sound mind and fully aware of her actions at the time of the alleged offences.
