Speaking at a press conference at his home in Marang, Terengganu, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision was in response to a series of actions by Bersatu that his party found unsatisfactory.
Hadi said these actions included Bersatu assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan backing down after initially agreeing to align with Umno to form a new state government.
Hadi also said PAS was not pleased with developments in Perlis, where control of the state administration shifted to Bersatu, as well as alleged interference in the appointment of executive councillors in Kedah and the deputy speaker in Kelantan.
The Marang MP also said Bersatu was blocking efforts to bring Malay-Muslim parties into Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“We will review and examine each of Bersatu’s actions. If it can affect PN in the next general election, we will take action,” he said.
“We will look into the positives and negatives of the current alliance. The election is near, and… we will act accordingly.”
He also claimed that Bersatu demanded many seats in previous state elections and by-elections, despite having insufficient machinery on the ground.
“In the end… it was PAS members who did all the work. That is the reality.
“We are not disappointed (with Bersatu), we are patient. But patience has its limits. That is what I want to say: patience has limits,” he said.
“We do not think this (dispute with Bersatu) will affect us… PAS is the main driver of PN, and the PAS leadership has the authority to determine PN’s direction in elections.”
Ties between PAS and Bersatu were strained following the Perlis political crisis which saw a Bersatu assemblyman succeed an elected representative from PAS as the menteri besar.
Hadi’s remarks today come a day after PAS treasurer Iskandar Abdul Samad said cooperation between the party, Pejuang, Berjasa and the Reset movement – should it become a political party – could provide the “most stable platform” to advance the Malay-Muslim agenda.
Iskandar’s remarks came amid growing attention on Reset, a movement linked to Hamzah Zainudin who was sacked from Bersatu in February.
