PETALING JAYA:
The sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of a meeting with youth and sports minister Dr Taufiq Johari to discuss the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (Sukma 2026).

Taufiq was granted an audience at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam today.

In a Facebook post, the Selangor Royal Office said Sultan Sharafuddin was satisfied with the organisers’ steps to reduce expenditure in line with the current economic climate.

It said the sultan emphasised that all spending at this year’s games must be restricted to essential matters, with a focus on sports development and young athletes at the local level.

Selangor youth, sports and entrepreneurship committee chairman Najwan Halimi previously said detailed preparations and updated cost estimates for the games would be presented to the sultan today.

He said the Sukma supreme committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow would also discuss plans for the games and seek input from all participating states.

Najwan, who also chairs the 22nd Sukma and Selangor Para Sukma 2026 organising committee, said 37 sports would be contested, with the addition of silambam, muay thai, and petanque.

Sultan Sharafuddin gave his consent for the state to host the games after granting an audience to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday.
