
He said he could not reveal the party’s details as its official name has not been finalised, as discussions are ongoing with the Registrar of Societies to ensure all procedures are followed before any announcement is made.
“So far, arrangements at the division level are going smoothly, with more than 130 divisions submitting their lists of leaders. The total number of divisions is expected to exceed 150,” Harian Metro reported him as saying at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Larut, Perak today.
On his recent resignation as the parliamentary opposition leader, Hamzah said the position does not belong to any person but is determined by the opposition party with the greatest support.
He said his appointment as opposition leader was determined by PAS, with party president Abdul Hadi Awang nominating him following an agreement with Bersatu.
Hamzah’s resignation as opposition leader was confirmed on April 12 by Perikatan Nasional chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. It came about two months after Hamzah was expelled as deputy president of Bersatu.
