PETALING JAYA:
Suspended Bersatu leader Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has accused the party’s appeals board of bias and suggested that action taken against other members in the party was due to their ties with deputy president Hamzah Zainudin.

His criticism of the appeals board follows its justification for delaying his appeal and those of others on the grounds that the board had yet to meet the required three-member quorum.

The Machang MP told a press conference at Parliament that he and several other members facing disciplinary action had received responses stating that their appeals remained pending despite the 14-day deadline approaching.

“The appeals board chairman, Zulkifli Nordin, is currently the sole member of the panel. The panel cannot convene a meeting as the quorum requires three members.

“As long as the board does not convene, there will be no definitive decision on the appeal.”

Wan Fayhsal, who was suspended on Oct 14 for violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct, questioned whether this delay was intentional.

“Is this being done deliberately to let the appeal period expire? This is a betrayal of the appeal process and an injustice to our positions within Bersatu.”

During Bersatu’s general assembly last month, party president Muhyiddin Yassin revealed that certain quarters were collecting signatures to oust him, prompting some delegates to urge that he step down.

The subsequent turmoil has since led to Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan’s sacking and Wan Fayhsal’s suspension.

The party’s disciplinary board also expelled four division chiefs – Azrudin Idris (Hang Tuah Jaya), Faizal Asmar (Pengerang), Fadhli Ismail (Ipoh Timur) and Isa Saidi (Ampang).

Wan Fayhsal also claimed that Hamzah, who is the opposition leader, was the real target behind the sanctions, adding that they were merely “collateral damage”.

“They want action to be taken against the opposition leader.

“That’s why those of us facing disciplinary action are merely collateral (damage). The main target is Hamzah,” he was quoted as saying.

Wan Fayhsal also revealed that three more Bersatu division chiefs, namely Abdul Razak Khamis (Pendang); Suhaimi Ghazali (Sepang); and Shukor Mustafa (Puchong), had been summoned by the party’s disciplinary board.

He said the decision to summon the trio was linked to statutory declarations which allegedly demanded Muhyiddin’s resignation as party president.

Wan Fayhsal also criticised Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham for stating that individuals facing disciplinary action would not be allowed to return to the party.

He said such statements were inappropriate as the appeals board had yet to make its decision.

Hilman had told Utusan Malaysia that instead of showing remorse after facing disciplinary action, the expelled members continued to defy party rules and discipline, citing Wan Fayhsal’s repeated absence from four disciplinary hearings after his suspension.
