PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu associate wing vice-chief R Sri Sanjeevan has demanded that his party colleague, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, apologise over remarks made in a Facebook Live video that allegedly defamed him.

In a letter of demand dated Oct 28, Sanjeevan accused Badrul, better known as Chegubard, of defaming him in a livestream video uploaded on Oct 12.

Sanjeevan said Badrul used derogatory labels against him and also accused him of “spending a lot” of money in Muhyiddin Yassin’s “office” in hopes of exerting influence over the Bersatu president.

He demanded that the Port Dickson Bersatu chief retract the video, issue an apology within 48 hours and also pay him RM1 million in damages for reputational harm.

He said he will file a suit if Badrul fails to comply.

“Our client has suffered irreparable damage and injury to his credibility, integrity, and reputation,” said the letter of demand sent by law firm Preakas & Partners.

FMT has reached out to Badrul for comment.

Chegubard summoned by Bersatu disciplinary board

Separately, Badrul said he has been summoned to appear before the Bersatu disciplinary board, purportedly over his criticism of Sanjeevan.

He had criticised Sanjeevan for organising an event with Muhyiddin in Port Dickson without the knowledge of the local division’s leadership, which he heads.

He said he received a WhatsApp message on Sunday from an individual who introduced himself as the secretary of the disciplinary committee, asking him to attend a hearing on Thursday.

Badrul said he has asked for the hearing to be postponed as he has a sedition case in court on the same day, and was supposed to be busy assisting with the party’s Sabah election campaign.

He also alleged that certain party figures were attempting to replace him in Bersatu and that disciplinary reports lodged by grassroots members were being ignored.
