PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested five more men today for their involvement in a brawl during a football match in Teluk Intan, Perak, on Thursday, bringing the total number of those arrested to 12.

Hilir Perak police chief Bakri Zainal Abidin said remand applications will be made tomorrow morning for the five men, aged between 20 and 30, Berita Harian reported.

He said the seven who were previously arrested were freed on police bail earlier today. The investigation paper on their arrests will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers soon for further instructions.

The seven, aged 21 to 31, were arrested at the district police headquarters on Thursday night after admitting to being involved in the incident.

The brawl started during the second half of the Hilir Perak grassroots league match, after a player made a rough tackle on his opponent.

This led to a scuffle between players from both teams, with punches being thrown.

During the commotion, two men believed to be supporters climbed over the fence and entered the field, and one of them tried to kick a player.

This led to a scuffle between the player and the man, Bakri had said.

He said the manager of one of the teams punched the referee in the ribs, and several players also attacked the other match official.

All those arrested were identified based on a viral video, which showed their jersey numbers.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
