Iskandar Puteri fire and rescue station chief Faiz Suleimen said they received a call regarding the accident at 5.41pm, Harian Metro reported.
“The accident involved two trailer lorries, one carrying a load of propylene glycol and the other carrying sodium hypochlorite,” he said in a statement.
“The chemical cargo of the propylene glycol trailer was found to have fallen into the sea from the bridge, while the chemical load of the second trailer lorry did not suffer any leakage.”
Faiz said initial visual checks at the scene found no evidence of a chemical spill, such as foam or oil slicks on the sea surface.
However, he said a hazmat team was deployed to confirm that there was no chemical leakage.
The trailer lorry driver who was transporting the propylene glycol was sent to hospital for treatment, while the other driver was unhurt.
Meanwhile, Johor environment department director Famey Yusoff said his team is awaiting a full report from the fire department that is handling operations at the site.
The crash came just a day after Malaysia and Singapore held a joint drill to prepare for chemical spills on the Second Link bridge.
