Selangor executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin said there was a consistent downward trend, although a surge was reported in Thailand and Singapore.
PETALING JAYA:
The number of Covid-19 cases in Selangor has been declining this year, even as neighbouring countries have reported a surge, according to a state executive councillor.

Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who heads the public health and environment committee, said weekly cases had stayed below 100 since mid-March, with consistent downward trends, Bernama reported.

There have been a total of 3,807 cases so far this year, a sharp drop from 14,542 cases for the same period last year.

Her remarks came a day after health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the federal government was watching regional developments closely, following rising number of cases in Thailand and Singapore.

Jamaliah said the state government’s preventive efforts and strong public compliance had helped to keep infections low. She urged continued caution, especially for high-risk groups such as older people and those with chronic conditions.
