PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former immigration officer in its investigation into graft amounting to over RM10 million involving a syndicate smuggling in foreigners via KLIA.

Bernama reported that the 50-year-old man was detained at MACC’s Pahang office at 11.55pm.

The suspect, who took early retirement on Jan 1, 2024, has been remanded from today to April 22 to allow for investigations under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for bribery.

Pahang MACC director Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrest.

This comes after three immigration officers were arrested yesterday in the same case during an operation carried out by MACC’s Pahang branch in Nilai, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur.

The three, including a woman in her 40s, are believed to have been involved in smuggling foreigners through the country’s entry points from 2021 to 2024.

The syndicate is believed to have earned millions of ringgit, which were also dispensed to other immigration personnel.

The immigration officers are accused of acting as middlemen to facilitate the entry of foreign nationals without following the required procedures at Terminals 1 and 2 of KLIA.
