PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly throwing a firecracker onto the stadium track during a football match in Sarawak last night.

“Officers on duty saw a person in the spectators’ seats throw an object believed to be a firecracker onto the track, followed by a loud explosive sound,” said Kuching police chief Farhan Lee Abdullah in a statement today.

He said the incident occurred during the Super League match between Kuching City FC and Selangor FC at Sarawak Stadium.

Farhan advised the public to refrain from bringing prohibited items, especially explosives, to football matches.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 for causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property, punishable by up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine of RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
