Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam said police detained the suspects, aged between 17 and 30, at various locations including Batu Caves, Kajang, Shah Alam, and Dengkil, following public tip-offs and intelligence gathering.
“The detainees consist of the shop owner, employees, and individuals hired to carry out promotional stunt activities for the clothing business,” Sazalee was reported as saying by Harian Metro.
A viral video of the 2am incident showed several people on a pickup truck igniting flares and waving a banner with the text “6.6”, while two individuals on scrambler motorcycles rode in circles around the vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the group was allegedly filming promotional content for a clothing store that has been operating for six years.
Sazalee said those hired for the stunt were paid between RM50 and RM700.
One individual who was detained, a 24-year-old woman, was believed to have acted as a coordinator during the filming.
Sazalee also confirmed that the scrambler motorcycles used in the video were not road-legal and were intended for off-road use, while the four-wheel drive vehicle was a rented unit.
Police remanded the suspects for three days to assist in investigations. Initial drug screenings returned negative results.
Police are investigating the case under multiple provisions including the Penal Code, Minor Offences Act, Explosives Act, Road Transport Act, and Communications and Multimedia Act.
