PETALING JAYA: The Kuching magistrates’ court has slapped a RM2,500 fine on a man for threatening to murder his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
The court also ordered that the accused serve eight months in jail if he failed to pay the fine, The Borneo Post reported.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan meted out the fine after Jack Jebat, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
The offence is punishable with a maximum seven years in jail, a fine, or both.
Jack had threatened to kill the victim at his ex-girlfriend’s room in Tabuan Tranquility around 1.22am last Monday. He was arrested yesterday after his ex-girlfriend filed a police report.
The accused was not represented by a lawyer.
