KUALA LUMPUR:
Two superbike riders were charged in the magistrates’ court here today with performing dangerous stunts on the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) earlier this month.

Nashril Rosli, 31, and Khairul Azham Noor, 36, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before magistrate Syazwany Yasmyn Roslan.

Nashril, who rode a Ducati Panigale, and Khairul, who rode a Ducati Hypermotard 950, were accused of performing wheelies over a distance of about 80m at KM6.5 of the SPE heading towards Putrajaya at 11am on May 9.

They were charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 with reckless and dangerous driving, which carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine of RM5,000 to RM15,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence upon conviction.

The court granted bail at RM3,000 with one surety for each of the accused and fixed July 8 and July 10, respectively, for mention of Nashril’s and Khairul’s cases.

Prosecuting officer Shazwan Hasifi Shahrun appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Akmal Taufiq represented the accused.
