In a statement, Mas Ermieyati said as the ministry was a key stakeholder in MAHB, the testimony of its minister, Loke Siew Fook, was relevant.
“I am surprised and disappointed by his statement implying that he is being called because he is a minister from DAP. That is completely untrue.”
Mas Ermieyati, who is also the Wanita Bersatu chief, said PAC is a bipartisan committee and that ministers and former ministers from various parties have been called to testify before it in the past.
“Did the previous PAC chairman, who was also from DAP, summon Cabinet ministers for proceedings because they were affiliated to Umno, Bersatu or MCA?” she asked, referring to Wong Kah Woh.
She reiterated that PAC proceedings, including who to summon, were a collective decision made by its 13 members and not by the chairman alone.
Earlier today, Loke questioned if Mas Ermieyati’s remarks about summoning him were politically motivated, saying the transport ministry had no direct involvement in MAHB’s transactions as the company was publicly listed.
Loke said the PAC chairman must be fair and not pin the blame on DAP.
Mas Ermieyati asked if Loke would refuse to appear before the PAC, but acknowledged that it was ultimately up to him to choose to attend the proceedings or not.
“But history will show that a minister declined to appear before the PAC to give his views and explanations, even though this is for the good of the people and the country.”
She said PAC’s probe into MAHB would not be limited to just its privatisation deal, but would include issues related to the management of public airports, including the hike in airfares to Sabah and Sarawak, and the delayed installation of the aerotrain at KLIA.
