Harian Metro reported that the victim was believed to have worked in construction and had been living with his employer in Jalan Kampung Sungai Baru, Sungai Petani, for the past four months.
Kuala Muda police chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the man, who was in his late 20s, was believed to have been beaten by several people and was dead for more than 24 hours when he was found.
“Preliminary examinations revealed that the victim had signs of binding on his legs and hands, as well as bruises and injuries from blunt force trauma on both thighs, legs, and the back of his body.
“The main suspect was arrested after he was seen holding a rope and beating the victim in video recordings.
“The weapons and rope used during the incident were found during a search of the house.”
Wan Azharuddin said the police also arrested six other Rohingya men to assist in the murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Wan Azharuddin said police received a phone call on Jan 28 from a woman informing them that her husband had been found dead at a house in Jalan Kampung Sungai Baru.
He said the woman claimed her husband’s employer had accused him of stealing RM40,150 in cash, a gold chain, and a ring on Jan 4 at the house they were living in.
Wan Azharuddin also said the employer had filed a police report on the missing items, with the case investigated for stealing under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
