State public works, transport, infrastructure and communications committee chairman Fazli Salleh said the three main areas of focus are Skudai, Iskandar Puteri, and Tebrau.
“However, we have yet to estimate how much congestion the ART will reduce,” he told FMT.
Fazli said the public-private partnership unit is currently studying the state’s proposal for the system’s implementation.
“The basis of our decision to choose the planned ART (includes) that it will be done by end-December 2026.
“This is in line with the start of the rapid transit system connecting Bukit Chagar to Woodlands in Singapore in 2027.
“The ART will cost between RM7 billion and RM8 billion,” he said.
Fazli was previously reported as saying that cost was among the Johor government’s reasons for choosing to implement the ART in Johor Bahru instead of the LRT.
He said preparing LRT infrastructure would have cost RM16.7 billion.
