Police received a call from a fisherman at 4.30am after he stumbled upon the items, which included a loaded magazine and bullets.
In a statement, Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the fisherman found the items in a box wrapped in plastic.
Initial investigation found that the pistol’s serial number had been tampered with. Other items found include various types of live ammunition from various brands, such as S&B Luger, R-P Luger, and Thai Arms.
“One of the packages also contained an AVD10 LXGD laser attachment,” Hamzah said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for unlawful possession of firearms.
