PETALING JAYA:
The use of the QR code system through the MyBorderPass app will be extended to Asean travellers departing Malaysia, says home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Saifuddin said Asean travellers entering Malaysia will use the usual immigration system in place, but will be able to use the QR code system when leaving.

“It is the responsibility of the home ministry, particularly the immigration department, to ensure seamless operations at all major entry points,” he told reporters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Terminal 1 today, Bernama reported.

The system is currently only used by Malaysians arriving and leaving Terminals 1 and 2 at KLIA.

Saifuddin said 40 QR code autogates have been installed, with 20 at each terminal, at a cost of RM19.2 million.

“To date, 400,000 Malaysians have downloaded the MyBorderPass app to facilitate the use of the QR code clearance system.

“Users only need to log in, and this system enables clearance to be completed,” he said, at an average of four seconds.

He also said 55,000 users have been recorded using the system since its launch on Jan 1.

Saifuddin said the government plans to expand the system to other major international airports, including those in Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Langkawi.
