PETALING JAYA:
A 25-year-old woman and her 36-year-old boyfriend were arrested in Ampang, Selangor, yesterday after her seven-year-old son died, allegedly after being abused.

Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said the mother had called the police at about 2.36pm yesterday claiming that her son had stopped breathing while he was sleeping at home.

However, police suspected that the boy had been a victim of abuse by his mother and her boyfriend after discovering bruise marks on the child’s face, neck, hands and feet.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death as internal bleeding in the head, Azam said.

“At 5.15pm yesterday, we arrested the man and woman at Taman Bukit Ampang,” he said in a statement, adding that the case is being investigated for murder.

Azam said the man tested positive for methamphetamine and has a criminal record, though he was not wanted by the cops. The pair have been remanded until Jan 17.
