Private sector worker charged over Kedah double murder

PETALING JAYA:
A 30-year-old man who works in the private sector has been charged in the Gurun magistrates’ court with killing his wife and a mobile phone trader two weeks ago.

Syed Al Iqbal Syed Shahruddin, 30, nodded after the charge was read before magistrate Anis Suraya Ahmad, but no plea was made as murder cases fall under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

He was charged with killing Ku Asraf Ku Shaif @ Ku Shuib, 30, in front of a house in Taman Nona, Guar Chempedak, Yan, between 9pm and 10pm on Sept 11.

He was also charged with murdering his wife, Nurul Nur Syamira Khamis, 28, at the same time and place, Berita Harian reported.

The charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code are punishable by the death penalty or up to 40 years’ imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Lawyers Abdul Hayyi Salim, Diyana Ibrahim and Shameer Haziq Shaharuddin acted for the accused.

Case mention is set for Oct 21.
