PETALING JAYA:
An area near the Penang LRT construction site in Sungai Pinang, Penang, has been reopened by the police after a bomb threat hoax earlier this morning.

Timur Laut police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad said members of the public alerted the cops to an object that looked like an explosive at Lebuh Sungai Pinang 7 in George Town at 9.50am.

A bomb disposal squad was dispatched and “deactivated” the object at about 11.50am, he said in a statement.

“Preliminary analysis found that the object was made of paper, wires, and cement, and did not contain explosive materials.

“The site was declared safe and reopened to the public at about 12.15pm. No loss of life or damage to property was reported,” he said.

Rozak urged the public against speculating or spreading false information on the incident to prevent widespread alarm.
