PETALING JAYA:
A total of 5,364 people died in 532,125 road accidents recorded in the first 10 months of this year.

Deputy transport minister Hasbi Habibollah said 68% of those killed were motorcyclists or pillion riders, Bernama reported.

Hasbi said this showed how important it was to increase road safety among motorcyclists and pillion riders.

He said safe riding clinics are one of the key components of the road safety community programme, being held in conjunction with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2024.

“The initiative helps boost safety awareness and develop riding skills to allow motorcyclists to react swiftly in emergency situations,” he said at the launch of the event at the Malaysian Road Transport Academy in Ayer Molek, Melaka, today.

The speech was delivered by road transport department deputy director-general (planning and operations) Jazmanie Shafawi.
