Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said the boys, all aged 17 and still in school, were arrested in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, between 3pm and 9pm yesterday, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Noor Hisam said the Kuala Kangsar police headquarters detected a 37-second video clip on Oct 25 showing the youths riding recklessly at Km249 southbound of the highway and obstructing a health ministry ambulance.
“Initial investigations found that the incident took place on Oct 19 at about 3.15pm, when the ambulance was on its way to the site of an accident at Km260 of the same expressway. Upon reaching the scene, it was blocked by a group of motorcyclists performing dangerous manoeuvres on the right lane,” he said.
He said all five suspects were brought before the Kuala Kangsar magistrates’ court and were remanded for two days until tomorrow.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
