In a statement today, Fuziah said various discussions and views were expressed during the council’s meeting yesterday, but no conclusive decision was reached.
“The meeting concluded that further engagement at all levels of party leadership is necessary before any decision is made,” she said.
When contacted by FMT, Fuziah added that the meeting primarily focussed on membership issues and evaluating performance across various states.
The clarification came in response to a news portal’s article that quoted three sources who attended the meeting as saying that the council had agreed to put off party polls until after GE16.
Fuziah hoped the news portal in question would exercise greater responsibility in future reporting. The article has since been taken down.
Previously, PKR had postponed its party elections in 2021 for up to 18 months, citing a provision in the party constitution that allowed for such a delay.
The elections were eventually held in July 2022 and those elected will hold office until 2025.
