GUA MUSANG:
A soldier and his pregnant wife, who were expecting a pair of twins, were killed when their car crashed into a roadside drainage wall this morning.
Ridwan Effendy Yusof, 43, and Suhana Khairudin, 37, were returning home to Kota Bharu after she had undergone a medical procedure in Ipoh, Perak.

The couple’s two other children, Akid Darwisy, 9, and Qaisara Damia, 15, survived the crash with light injuries.

Suhana’s eldest sister Suhaily Khairudin, 49, said Suhana was six months pregnant and due to give birth in September.

She was in Ipoh for a transfer of amniotic fluid and given permission to return home after the procedure yesterday afternoon. “They couple left Ipoh and had planned to spend the night at a hotel in Cameron Highlands, but the hotels were fully booked.”

Suhana’s relative Hakiah Nor, 61, said Suhana and her husband continued their journey to Kota Bahru this morning. “I had suggested that they come to Kuala Lumpur and use the Karak Highway to return home but they refused and continued their journey using Jalan Lojing,” she said.

Gua Musang district police chief Sik Choon Foo said the impact of the crash caused the couple to be thrown from their vehicle and they died at the scene. Their children were taken to hospital for treatment.
