Thai tapper charged with murdering compatriot

A 46-year-old Thai rubber tapper has been charged in the Gua Musang magistrates’ court with the murder of a compatriot last month.

Mapaochi Samae nodded after the charge was read to him before magistrate Nik Tarmizie Nik Shukri.

No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the High Court’s jurisdiction, Harian Metro reported.

Mapaochi was charged with killing Manah Maemoh, 48, at a rubber plantation in Kampung Pulai, Gua Musang, between 7pm and 11pm on April 18.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code is punishable by death or 30 to 40 years in prison and 12 strokes of the rotan, if convicted.

The court fixed July 26 for mention while waiting for the results of the autopsy on the victim.
