
According to the latest report issued by the National Disaster Management Agency, the number of evacuees in Kelantan dropped to 6,684 people in 24 centres compared with 9,387 people in 27 centres earlier today.
It said the state’s relief centres comprised 10 in Pasir Mas housing 3,916 people; nine in Tumpat (2,278 victims); three in Kuala Krai (62 evacuees); and two in Jeli (428 people).
In Terengganu, it was earlier reported that six evacuees were being sheltered at a relief centre in Kuala Terengganu while the other two centres in Dungun had been closed.
However, a later report said Terengganu had fully recovered from this third wave of floods with the last relief centre in Kuala Nerus closing at 2pm.
The number of flood evacuees in Johor at noon remained at 54 people still housed at two relief centres in Segamat.
In Pahang, the number of evacuees also dropped at noon to 34 people at two relief centres in Maran compared with 131 people in five centres this morning.
Meanwhile, 87 landslide victims in Cameron Highlands are still housed at one relief centre in the district.
Two rivers in Kelantan, including Sungai Golok in Pasir Mas and another in Tanah Merah, were at a danger level at noon. The water level in Tanah Merah river is rising.
Other rivers at danger levels are Sungai Arau in Perlis (which is on a downward trend), and Sungai Perak in Hulu Perak and Sungai Pulai in Johor Bahru, with both showing the water level rising.
A total of 34 roads were closed due to flooding, damaged/collapsed bridges and landslide incidents.
Among the roads involved were Jalan Jabi-Bukit Tempurung, Segamat in Johor; Jalan Pengkalan Rakit-Batu Karang (Kelantan); Jalan Marang-Wakaf Tapai (Terengganu); Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Bentong (Jalan Lama Bentong) in Pahang; and Jalan Bukit Jugra in Selangor.
Health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said 20 Covid-19 cases were detected among flood evacuees at relief centres in Kelantan, Terengganu, from Dec 22 until yesterday. All cases are in stable condition, he said after visiting flood victims at the PPS operating at SK Jeli 1 today.
In Kuantan, a landslide has caused a disruption of communication services in the Orang Asli settlements of Pos Lemoi and Pos Telimau, 20km from Ringlet, in Cameron Highlands.
State exco member Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said repair work could not be carried out this morning, due to blocked access to the location.
