He called for the people to accept the digital transformation that is taking place as the country needs to stay up to date with the latest technological advances, Bernama reported.

“What is there to be afraid of? Bank Negara Malaysia will not release personal banking details. So that is under control.

“Then, there are those who say that chips will be implanted into our body and so on. They have been watching too many Hollywood movies,” he told reporters after registering for his digital ID in Putrajaya, making him the first in the country to have one.

The others who registered after Anwar were deputy prime ministers Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the rural and regional development minister, and Fadillah Yusof, who is also the plantation industries and commodities minister.

Anwar urged all civil servants to register for the digital ID as the Rahmah cash aid and all forms of targeted subsidies will be channelled through the digital ID. However, he said the government will not force anyone to register for the digital ID.

According to Bernama, the digital ID is a digital form of identification and verification of individuals that will benefit the public and private sectors in verifying the identity of users when carrying out online transactions.

Without replacing the MyKad system, it is a secure platform that facilitates online identity verification to avoid identity fraud when carrying out online transactions.
