Unlike the previous industrial transformations and three industrial master plans since 1986, Anwar said the NIMP 2030 adopts a mission-based approach.
He said four missions have been put in place to drive the industry transformation.
They are encouraging industries to innovate and produce more sophisticated products; embracing technology and digital transformation; pushing for net-zero emissions and safeguarding economic security; and inclusivity.
Anwar said encouraging industries to innovate and produce more sophisticated products will enhance the nation’s competitiveness in the global market, while technology and digital transformation can help create new opportunities for economic growth.
“These missions will be supported by four key enablers to overcome systemic and institutional challenges.
“These enablers include addressing financing challenges, nurturing talent development and acquisition, improving the investor journey, and enhancing governance mechanisms,” he said at the launch at Menara Miti this morning.
Also present were deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, transport minister Loke Siew Fook and investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz.
Anwar went on to say the goals under the NIMP must be reached in seven years.
He also said the NIMP 2030 will require an estimated total of RM95 billion in investments, predominantly from the private sector.
Anwar said that as a whole-of-government approach was in the implementation of the NIMP, a national council comprising relevant ministries and industry representatives will be set up.
“A delivery management unit under the investment, trade and industry ministry will be set up to coordinate all efforts and drive cohesive implementation across stakeholders,” he said.
In addition, the plan will create opportunities for small and medium enterprises to grow in manufacturing through specific action plans.
“There is a lot of potential to grow our SMEs in manufacturing, in line with our Ekonomi Madani aspiration to strengthen firms of all sizes,” he said.
