PETALING JAYA:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called on the public to back the government, and work to develop the country and its multiracial and multi-religious society.

He said a country can only fully progress when there is a stable government with the full backing of the people, with no racial or religious issues.

“Why do we need to celebrate ethnic and religious festivities in Malaysia?

“It is because we want all Malaysians to progress. We turn differences into something good,” he said at a unity gathering in Kinarut, Papar, Sabah.

Anwar said that although Islam is the official religion and Malay the national language, it did not stop the nation from celebrating diversity.

“We do not stop the rights of other religions and do not insult other races or religions, because this only leads to conflict,” he said.
