
His appointment was confirmed by Umno supreme council member Ahmad Maslan, Berita Harian reported.
FMT had reported Razaleigh’s appointment earlier today, quoting a divisional leader who said the decision was made at a meeting of Umno’s top leadership.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Mohamad Hasan, and vice-presidents Khaled Nordin, Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Johari Ghani were at the meeting held earlier today at Umno headquarters in the World Trade Centre.
Ahmad Maslan said Zahid had made the suggestion when speaking at a meeting with divisional leaders.
Tengku Razaleigh, popularly known as Ku Li, was MP for Gua Musang from 1974 when the constituency was named Ulu Kelantan. At the 2020 general election, he narrowly lost the seat to Perikatan Nasional candidate Azizi Abu Naim by 163 votes.
Last year, Tengku Razaleigh said he would bow out of politics after the general election.
