MELAKA:
Chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh today announced four initiatives under Melaka Rahmah Aid and Prihatin Rakyat.

This involves a financial implication of RM16.4 million.

Rauf said the four initiatives were aimed at reducing the burden and cost of living of the people, especially the B40 group.

The first initiative is free parking access for seven days under four local authorities in the state, starting 1 Syawal, involving a financial implication of RM519,000.

The second initiative is to reduce the licence fee for hawkers by 50% from June till the end of December this year. This will benefit 6,223 petty traders and will involve a cost of RM548,000.

Under the third initiative, service charges or fines for late payment of assessment rates will be waived for those who pay the entire assessment with penalty charges.

This will cover the residential, commercial and industrial categories for the year 2023.

Speaking after the state government’s monthly assembly and the breaking of fast event with Melaka civil servants here, Rauf said this will involve a financial allocation of RM14.12 million.

He said the fourth initiative is to waive all summonses dated between March 1 and 30 for parking offences and fines imposed on petty traders and hawkers during that period.

This is to mark his appointment as chief minister. This will cost the state RM1.18 million.

Rauf said the Melaka government would implement an “open day” on the last Thursday of every month to make it easier for the people to meet him on a walk-in basis, either at his office (Seri Negeri) until 5pm or until 2am after that at Sri Bendahara, his official residence.
