PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has advised Muslims against wasting food when breaking fast during Ramadan.
Wasting food went against the spirit of Ramadan, Sultan Abdullah said in a statement.
“The fasting month is supposed to teach the people to be prudent and not waste food.”
The King also urged Muslims to be more charitable and refrain from spending lavishly throughout the holy month.
Earlier this month, NST reported the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation, a government agency, predicted that there would be an extra 75,000 tonnes of food waste during Ramadan, if nothing was done to reduce wastage.
Muslims in Malaysia will begin the fasting month of Ramadan tomorrow.
