
Wanita Umno secretary Rosni Sohar said unofficial results showed that Noraini had already managed to get 106 votes, passing the 96 needed to win the post, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Umno has a total of 191 divisions. However, official results at press time showed that Noraini had 48 votes while Shahrizat had 32.
Noraini, the Parit Sulong MP and former higher education minister, and Shahrizat are in a straight fight to lead the party’ women’s wing.
Noraini had take over as the women’s wing leader in 2018 when Shahrizat stepped down after holding the post since 2009, when she defeated Rafidah Aziz. Rafidah had held the post from 1999.
