
This was followed by Pahang (2,978), Negeri Sembilan (587), Melaka (493) and Selangor (71).
The state disaster management committee (JPBN) in Johor reported that 44,860 flood victims are currently housed in 260 temporary relief centres (PPS) in 10 districts.
Batu Pahat was the worst hit with 12,250 people evacuated, followed by Segamat with 13,334 people and Kluang with 5,296 people.
In Pahang, the JPBN secretariat said that 2,860 flood victims have been placed in 23 PPS.
Rompin continued to have the highest number of evacuees at 2,615, followed by Temerloh (305), Bera (29), and Maran (29).
In Melaka, the number of evacuees increased to 493 people as of 8am today. They are being housed in five PPS, four in Jasin and one in Alor Gajah.
In Selangor, the number of evacuees rose to 71 people as of this morning compared with 58 people yesterday.
According to the Selangor Civil Defence Force (APM), the victims were placed in two PPS – Sekolah Kebangsaan Merbau Sempak and Dewan MPKS Desa Coalfields, Sungai Buloh.
In Negeri Sembilan, state Civil Defence Force (APM) director Nazri Mes Kam said the number of evacuees dropped to 587 people remaining in four PPS in Tampin as of 8am.
Meanwhile, health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the ministry is monitoring waterborne diseases from the floods.
“We will also mobilise other teams for clean-up work, particularly at health facilities affected by the disaster,” she said.
Zaliha said the health ministry has standard operating procedures for flood disasters, especially in managing temporary relief centres (PPS).
These include fogging activities to prevent infectious diseases and setting up mobile clinics to provide immediate treatment to flood victims.
She added that health personnel also conducted Covid-19 screening on flood evacuees housed at the PPS.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued an alert on severe-level continuous heavy rain until Monday in Pahang (affecting Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin), Johor (Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi), and Sarawak (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong).
