2 held over machete attack after ‘scolding’ by waiter

The restaurant worker had reprimanded one of the suspects for making a scene over delay in getting his drink.

CCTV footage shows the two suspects armed with machetes in a restaurant in Cheras on Tuesday morning.
PETALING JAYA:
A waiter sustained injuries after two men wielding machetes slashed him in front of a restaurant at Taman Segar Perdana in Cheras.

The incident, which was recorded on CCTV, took place at about 9.25am on Tuesday.

Kajang police chief Zaid Hassan said one of the men was unhappy with the waiter who had reprimanded him for making a scene when the drink he ordered arrived late.

The customer left but returned a short while later with a friend and attacked the waiter with machetes.

“The 46-year-old victim suffered a broken finger and injured his left knee,” Zaid said.

The suspects, aged 44 and 47, were detained at Taman Cheras Permata in Kajang at 3am yesterday. Two machetes and clothes worn by the suspects during the attack were also seized.

The suspects, who have been remanded for five days, are being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons.
