Johor PH chairman Salahuddin Ayub, however, said the relationship between the two coalitions is very good in the spirit of the unity government at the federal level.
“At the menteri besar’s winding up speech for the 2023 Budget at the Johor state assembly sitting (last December), we were still seated in the opposition side.
“There has not been any decision in Johor, but between us, we understand the underlying spirit of the unity government. Our relationship is also very good, but we cannot determine the form of cooperation in the future,” he told reporters after an event in Pulai last night.
The Pulai MP was commenting on the relationship and form of collaboration between PH and BN in Johor.
In the Johor state election (PRN) held in March last year, BN won comfortably with more than two-thirds majority when it managed to secure 40 of the 56 state assembly seats contested.
In the state election, PH won 11 seats, Perikatan Nasional (3), while PKR and Muda got one seat each.
Asked about the caucus involving 24 Johor BN and PH MPs, Salahuddin explained that the matter is still under discussion.
“On the caucus, it is still under discussion and state opposition leader Andrew Chen is working on that,” he said.
On Dec 4, Chen’s predecessor, Liew Chin Tong, suggested to Johor BN chairman Hasni Mohammad that a Johor MPs Caucus should be formed involving the 24 BN and PH MPs.
In response, Hasni said the establishment of the caucus would help drive Johor towards becoming a developed state.
On Dec 11, Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi was reported to have said he hoped the caucus would fight for the state’s high priority projects to get allocations from the federal government.
